Owosso Public Schools issued the following announcement on Oct. 28.
This year Mrs. Friend’s 3rd grade class at Central has had to get creative to reinstate their buddy program with Oliver Woods residents. Since students can’t meet face-to-face on a weekly basis, students and residents are exchanging letters as pen pals. Students have learned interesting facts about their buddies, such as they are former Owosso Public Schools teachers and administrators and WWII veterans that stormed the beaches of Normandy! Students are thankful to build these friendships and learn from those that have lived through history.
Today students dressed up in their Halloween costumes to trick-or-treat outdoors at Oliver Woods and meet their pen pals for the first time in person. There were plenty of smiles and candy to go around!
