Here’s our Fantastic Friday Five to conclude the week with five points of pride. Have a great weekend and GO TROJANS!1. The Fraternal Order of Eagles Owosso Aerie No. 851 presented Owosso Public Schools with a $5,000 donation this week. The funds are slated for the Owosso Cares Food Backpack Program, which feeds Owosso students, from preschool to high school, who need food on the weekends. Thank you Owosso Eagles!2. The Owosso High School National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 32 new members earlier this week. Membership in NHS is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. This society focuses on scholarship, service, leadership, and character. At the induction ceremony, OHS Principal Dr. Dallas Lintner surprised students and NHS Adviser Mrs. Teresa Laskowski with a special award recognizing the chapter’s more than $100,000 donations to local events and charities over the last 23 years.3. 3-14 is Pi Day. Lincoln High School had some fun with the math concept while raising money for their after-school activities. Students donated in order to give an LHS staff member a pie to the face. So much laughter and pie!4. The Shiawassee Scholars program offers unique opportunities and support services to eighth graders who score among the top 50 eighth-grade students in Shiawassee County on the SAT examination. They receive a scholarship for an academic, art, leadership, and career pathway enrichment camp. Assistance is given for researching various enrichment programs, coordinating visits to Michigan universities, and assisting students in preparing for a successful and challenging college experience. We are proud to highlight Owosso Middle School’s Shiawassee Scholars: Rylie Butcher, Julia Ciarlino, Ariston Dallas, Waylen Duckworth, Lukas Lawrence, Alexander Nees, and Madison Woods.5. Mrs. Karen Michalec, the district mentor coordinator, gathered the new teachers in the district in the high school culinary arts classroom where they were introduced to one of our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Chef Hannah Poyner began with an introduction to the culinary arts program at OHS, where it started, and what it is today. She then led the group into the commercial kitchen that is her classroom to make a mini crumble-top apple pie. Teachers were divided into groups where they needed to work together to complete the task, which also included cleaning the workspaces, and doing the dishes. Afterward, the group shared how this experience, filled with communication, teamwork and learning new things, could be applied in their classrooms.
