Here’s our Fantastic Friday Five to conclude the week with five points of pride. Have a great weekend and GO TROJANS!
1. Saturday, January 28 is the annual Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Association (MIFA) Theater Competition in the Owosso Performing Arts Center. Six different one-act shows will be performing starting at 8 a.m. throughout the day. Come support the high school theaters groups as they perform “Disenchanted!” and “Women of Lockerbie.” Tickets are $5 at the door.
2. One of Bryant Elementary’s para-pros, Ms. Dana Shepard, realized a need for 3rd-5th grade student activities in the morning and set out to solve the matter. Ms. Shepard worked with Teacher Mrs. Bushard to gather a variety of board games and card games such as Uno, Connect 4, Go Fish, I Spy, and Guess Who to keep on a cart in the gym for student use each morning before the school day begins. Mrs. Bushard assisted with setting up a Donor’s Choose program that was fully funded in late December. Now, thanks to Ms. Shepard's great idea, the kids have 3 different grade level carts of board and card games to help them build friendships while they wait to start their school day. Bryant is accepting any gently used games for student use.
3. Girls on the Run programs are forming at all three Owosso elementary schools. Please stop into the school office for more details for your 3rd-5th grader. Visit GOTRMidMichigan.org/programs. Scholarships are available.
4. Emerson Elementary kindergartners in Mrs. Pierce’s class learned about germs in a science lesson. On Friday, they conducted an experiment with glitter (germs) and what kills germs best. They took a poll to see what students thought would work best when given the options of: soap & water, hand sanitizer, and baby wipes. They learned soap and water was the best option when available.
5. Owosso Public Schools is excited to host a new event to showcase our opportunities for incoming kindergarten and preschool students and parents. Join us for the Kindergarten and Preschool Registration Extravaganza on February 23, 6 p.m. in the Owosso Performing Arts Center. Parents and students should attend this 45-minute overview of all things OPS! Meet our teachers, principals, and team members, pick-up a registration packet, and schedule a personal tour of your elementary school. Free food for all and free Owosso Trojan spirit wear for incoming kindergarteners and preschoolers.
