Owosso High School students Emma Johnson, Justin Johnson, and Cooper Walker were selected to attend the prestigious American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Girls State and American Legion Boys State based on their excellent academic and extracurricular work and their outstanding leadership, character, and community service qualities. The trio was sponsored by the American Legion Post 57 in Owosso.
By participating in these weeklong programs, students learn firsthand about leadership, practical citizenship, and the democratic process. It is an excellent academic opportunity and experience for students who have completed their junior year of high school.
Emma is the daughter of Larry and Krista Johnson of Owosso. She is a third-generation Girls State attendee, and a member of the National Honor Society and the varsity track and cross-country teams, the latter of which she is team captain. She carries a 4.6 grade point average.
Justin is the son of Larry and Krista Johnson of Owosso. He is a scholar-athlete, maintaining a 3.5 grade point average, and a member of the varsity basketball and football teams.
Cooper is the son of Roben and Missy Walker of Owosso. He is a scholar-athlete, maintaining a 3.89 grade point average, and a member of the varsity basketball, soccer, and baseball teams.
