When Kate Burholder is called to the scene of a murder, she is shocked to find that the victim is a formerly Amish girl whom she knew while growing up. The murder has been particularly brutal, leading her to believe that the victim, Rachel, knew her attacker. With the help of John Tomaseth they discover discover clues to Rachel's past which lead them to a rape by a dirty cop and eventually the murderer, but not before Kate finds herself in danger.
