Rep. Ben Frederick (R-Owosso) will be the majority floor leader for the Michigan House of Representatives' 2021-22 legislative term after being selected for the position in the chamber on Nov. 5.

After being selected to be the majority leader, Frederick expressed honor and gratitude for having the opportunity to serve in the position. He also said he is eager to begin his role and excited to work with other colleagues to help move Michigan forward through legislative bills and packages, according to the Michigan House Republicans website.

“I have always strived to bring legislators together to do what’s best for the people of our state, and I plan to take that same collaborative approach in my role as floor leader,” Frederick told Michigan House Republicans. “It means a great deal that my colleagues have put their trust in me to take on this role, and the people of mid-Michigan have given me the privilege of continuing to serve them in the House.”

Majority floor leaders are part of the process that determines which legislative proposals will be presented to legislators to consider. Frederick will also be calling session schedules and leading parliamentary procedure on the House floor in his new position.

Rep. Julie Calley (R-Portland) and Rep. Ann Bollin (R-Brighton Township) were also elected for new positions as assistant floor leaders. They will be working alongside Frederick during the 2021-2022 legislative session.
