College1

Baker College of Owosso issued the following announcement on Oct. 13

Baker College recently announced the appointment of Dr. Voula Erfourth as Campus Director of Baker College of Owosso. Dr. Erfourth, who has been with Baker for 17 years serving in several leadership positions, including her current role as Director of Academic Affairs, replaces outgoing Owosso Campus President, Dr. Denise Bannan, who is retiring after more than 35 years of service to Baker College. The announcement was made by Baker College President, Dr. Bart Daig.

In her time with Baker College, Dr. Erfourth has served as a faculty member, Director of Learning Support Services and Campus Dean of General Education, before her role as Director of Academic Affairs. She will hold both the Director of Academic Affairs and new Campus Director positions simultaneously, and anticipates no trouble managing the dual roles

“I have great people to work with, both here on the Owosso campus and throughout the Baker College system,” said Dr. Erfourth. “We have built a great team, and the Board of Regents and Trustees provide a strong support system for our campus. I’m here to support our employees in their roles, and ensure our students receive the resources and guidance to complete their degrees.

Dr. Erfourth replaces Dr. Denise Bannan, who began her career with Baker College in 1984. During her tenure on the Owosso campus, Dr. Bannan served as a faculty member, department chair, campus Vice President for Academics and eventually campus President for 13 years, before being promoted to Baker College Provost. After a decade in that role, Dr. Bannan returned to the Owosso campus in 2017 to again serve as President through her now retirement. Dr. Bannan will stay on as Baker College’s Higher Learning Commission Accreditation Liaison Officer through the remainder of the 2020-21 academic year.

“We are excited to have Dr. Erfourth now serving as the Campus Director of Baker College of Owosso, and we cannot begin to express our gratitude for the impact Dr. Bannan has had on not only this campus, but all of Baker College,” said Daig. “We wish Denise all the best in her well-earned retirement, and we look forward to Dr. Erfourth’s continued leadership. She has a proven track record for assisting our students in reaching their academic goals, and has been actively involved in both campus and system initiatives to drive quality outcomes for our institution.”

Dr. Erfourth holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Michigan State University. She also earned a secondary teaching certificate in English and Speech from Eastern Michigan University, and a Master of Liberal Arts degree in American Culture from the University of Michigan-Flint, before completing her doctoral studies in higher adult and lifelong education from Michigan State University.

A resident of the Owosso community, Dr. Erfourth plays an active role in local boards and activities. She is currently serving a two-year term as President of the Memorial Healthcare Foundation Board. She and her husband, Owosso-native, Mike Erfourth, have two sons attending Owosso Public Schools.

“She’ll be great,” said Baker College of Owosso Board Chair, Mary Slingerland. “Voula has always done a great job for Baker, and she has done some tremendous work in our community.
