CITY OF OWOSSO: Local alert feature offered by Facebook

Alert

City of Owosso issued the following announcement on Sept. 1.

The City of Owosso will be using the local alert feature offered by Facebook to help provide timely and accurate information to our residents. Facebook has created the local alert feature for local governments, first responders, and public health agencies to increase their ability to communicate effectively with the community. When the City of Owosso has time-sensitive information related to weather, infrastructure, or public safety we will utilize this feature. This will notify Facebook to amplify that post allowing us to reach more people. Facebook will add a yellow alert icon to our post and will send a notification to the City of Owosso Facebook followers.

The City of Owosso will first use Facebook’s local alert feature Thursday, September 3, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. with an announcement that we are testing the tornado sirens. The City tests its tornado sirens the first Thursday of every month April to October at 6:00 p.m.

The City of Owosso will also be sharing this information on our Twitter page, @CityofOwosso.
