CITY OF OWOSSO GOVERNMENT: Approved the installation of a Hyfi wireless water level sensor on the Main Street Bridge

Approved

City of Owosso Government issued the following announcement on Aug. 12.

The City of Owosso, in coordination with MDOT, has approved the installation of a Hyfi wireless water level sensor on the Main Street Bridge to monitor water levels of the Shiawassee River for at least two years. The compact and discreet sensor will be mounted to the bridge in the coming weeks. The quick installation will pose no disruption or disturbance to traffic, the bridge, or the river itself.

This Hyfi sensor is part of a broader project to monitor the Shiawassee River in partnership with the Shiawassee Water Trail Coalition, MDNR, Saginaw & Shiawassee Counties, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. A network of sensors across the region will allow partners to remotely gauge water levels in real-time via computer or smartphone, providing critical data to inform flood warnings and emergency response, watershed management, and recreation on the beautiful Shiawassee River.

Please contact Randy Chesney, City Engineer at 989-725-0550 with any questions.
