Active-duty military personnel make up 21 out of every 100,000 residents in Michigan, a recent release issued on The Center Square website revealed.
While thousands of military personnel are stationed at overseas bases, almost nine in 10 are based in the United States, the release said.
Michigan has the seventh-lowest numbers when compared to all 50 states, the release showed. Additionally, there are a total of 14 military bases in Michigan, and the state receives approximately $386 per-capita in defense spending. States with higher active-duty concentrations get thousands of dollars in defense spending per-capita.
1.4 million Americans serve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard; while an additional 804,000 serve in the National Guard.
The release drew its quoted numbers from a report by the 24/7 Wall St. website. The website's report is based on numbers that were collected from March 31, with raw data coming from the Defense Manpower Data Center.
