MICHIGAN INSURANCE AND FINANCIAL SERVICES: Lawmakers Sponsor Upcoming Auto Insurance Town Halls

Insurance11

Michigan Insurance and Financial Services issued the following announcement on May 29.

Drivers in Michigan will soon need to make new choices related to their auto insurance, and lawmakers are sponsoring virtual auto insurance town halls with the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) to educate constituents next week.

The live online town hall meetings are part of a series of events that will help drivers learn and ask questions about Michigan’s new auto insurance law and the choices they will need to make for policies issued or renewed after July 1, 2020.

Event Information:

  • 62nd House District:
    • Monday, June 1 at 10:30 a.m., sponsored by Rep. Jim Haadsma
  • 41st and 28th House Districts:
    • Monday, June 1 at 12:00 p.m., sponsored by Reps. Padma Kuppa and Lori M. Stone
  • 11th Senate District, 27th House District, and 35th House District:
    • Wednesday, June 3 at 5 p.m., sponsored by Sen. Jeremy Moss and Reps. Robert Wittenberg and Kyra Bolden
To date, nearly 2,000 people have attended DIFS’ virtual auto insurance town halls. Additional upcoming dates are listed online.

Michigan’s new auto insurance law lowers average statewide costs for Michigan drivers, maintains the highest coverage options in the country, and strengthens consumer protections. For policies that renew after July 1, 2020, drivers will need to determine the amount of coverage that best suits their needs. Drivers will be able to choose a level of Personal Injury Protection Medical Coverage and determine the level of Bodily Injury Coverage that best protects their family. By participating in the town hall meetings, drivers will learn about the upcoming choices and will have the opportunity to submit questions. Learn more at michigan.gov/autoinsurance.

DIFS continues to operate its dedicated, no-fault hotline with calls being answered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers can also call 833-ASK-DIFS (275-3437), email at autoinsurance@michigan.gov, or visit www.michigan.gov/autoinsurance for more information.
