The Michigan House Tax Policy Committee chair wants businesses to get a tax holiday because of the financial burdens COVID-19 continues to create.

In the proposed legislation, Rep. Lynn Afendoulis (R-Grand Rapids) would seek to provide Michigan businesses a tax holiday once they reopened for sales on-site, mlive.com reported in March. The goal is to provide an injection to businesses in an effort to jump-start the state’s economy after the coronavirus crisis has passed.

Michigan has a 6% sales tax.

“Most people are right now focused on what do we do right now and how long it’s going to last,” the Republican representative said, mlive.com reported. “I want to make sure that the legislature looks at all the options to figure out how to restart the economy after all this is over.”

Afendoulis represents Michigan’s District 73 in the state House of Representatives. She also is chair of the Michigan House Tax Policy Committee.
