Nonprofits in the Tri-County area are receiving a much-needed shot in the form of a $1 million donation from the Capital Region Community Foundation.
The demands on the nonprofits throughout the novel coronavirus pandemic have had a negative impact on communities. Needs have risen through an up-and-down economy and mounting unemployment.
The funding will be used to help the nonprofits shore up staffing and technology issues, WLNS.com reported. The foundation will also match up to $1 million in donations.
The state’s stay-at-home executive order has hampered the nonprofits in terms of garnering volunteers. Nonprofits will have the opportunity to apply for a grant. From that point, the foundation will select the recipient. The plan is to begin dispersing grant funding in about two weeks.
“All nonprofits are going to suffer in this process, so it's important that everyone thinks about their charitable dollar and donating it the best they can,” Executive VP Laurie Baumer told WLNS.com.
