BAKER COLLEGE OF OWOSSO: BC Students Volunteer in Jackson County in Search of the Unsheltered for PIT Count

College4

Baker College of Owosso issued the following announcement on Feb. 10

Baker College students in downtown Jackson, bundled up for the cold.

Baker College students, staff and faculty volunteered to help in searching Jackson county for unsheltered homeless people for the Point-in-Time (PIT) count. The PIT count is a nationwide effort to tally the number of unsheltered Americans living on the street on a single night in January.

Baker College groups were assigned to the downtown Jackson area on January 29th and began their search at 6 am, searching alleys, dumpsters, underpasses, fields and various other locations. When an unsheltered individual was found, they obtained some basic information and provided the individual with snacks and toiletries.

The PIT count factors into the amount of funding Jackson County organizations get from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
