BAKER COLLEGE OF OWOSSO: Culinary Institute of Michigan and Detroit Lions Host Third Annual Cooking Competition

Baker College of Owosso issued the following announcement on Nov. 21

Breithaupt culinary student Catalina Hulai being awarded her scholarship check from Chef Thomas Recinella to the Culinary Institute of Michigan.

On October 29, 2019, The Culinary Institute of Michigan (CIM), a division of Baker College, sponsored a student cooking competition hosted by the Detroit Lions and the Breithaupt Career and Technical Center. 

Four students from the Breithaupt culinary program were selected to participate in the competition consisting of three timed rounds featuring an appetizer, entrée and dessert. CIM Dean of Culinary Thomas Recinella CEC®, AAC® served as one of four judges, including Detroit Lions Chef Tim Hendren, Detroit Lions Cheerleader Carly T and Detroit Public Schools Community District Chef Kevin Fran.

Detroit Lions players Romeo Okwara, Marvin Hall, Rashaan Melvin and Steve Longa were paired with the students to serve as sous chefs during the competition. Students participating in the culinary program were also invited to watch their classmates compete for the grand prize of a $1500 scholarship to continue their culinary studies at the CIM while Lions legend TJ Lang served as MC for the event.

Congratulations to each of the student competitors Cheyanna Pierce, Francisco Jimenez, Catalina Hulai, and Damear Anderson, and special congratulations to Catalina Hulai for winning the competition.
